THREESOME and the Loner Fag Sidekick Dilemma

I just rented the movie THREESOME, which came out last year. I remember seeing the reviews, but I don't think it ran very long. The basic plot is that a woman by mistake ends up assigned to a dorm suite with two guys - one a not too bright stud and one a kind of shy intellectual type. She gets the hots for the shy guy, who resists her advances and realized that he has the hots for the other guy, who of course wants the woman, who doesn't want him. It is told most primarily from the point of view of the gay guy, and it sees the play of these sexualities as equally valid. Don't want to say any more, but did anyone else see it and like/dislike it? I mostly liked it, though I had some issues. It played seriously not only with issues of straight/gay, but also issues of group relationships - both the internal relationship and how they are viewed from the outside.

Jeff M: I really loved THREESOME! But your commentary forgot to mention that the movie is a comedy as well, and one of the funniest I've seen in a while. Magnificently acted.

Yes, it is a comedy, and very funny, but with something serious to say.

THREESOME, I suppose, is as good as anything we can expect from Hollywood at this point. I found it tiresome to see gay men represented in such a safe, non-confrontational kind of way. It wasn't aimed at people like me, however. Not that most stuff that comes out of Hollywood is anyway. Loved Stephen Baldwin, though.

Huh, maybe I'll rent it after all. I saw the coming attractions for THREESOME a bunch of times at the theatre, and it looked atrocious. But coming attractions can make good films look bad and vice=versa.

I agree with Banji that THREESOME isn't targeted him or to any adult male fag, IMO. Like did he ever get any from Baldwin really. One touch of his butt?!? Please!

I agree. I didn't like the way they handled his situation.

the loner fag sidekick never gets *any* in Hollywood.

I'm lost. "loner fag sidekick" ??

It all started with Sal Mineo in Rebel. Or anyone got an earlier reference?

Oh, I love Sal Mineo!! I would like him to play me in a movie (but that would be kinda hard since he's dayed).
