Matt Mirapaul sent me this, possibly of interest to Friends Of Nik Hello-- Greetings, and apologies in advance for the form letter. For those of you who don't know me, my name is Matt Mirapaul, and I write the "arts@large" column for The New York Times on the Web. In March, using the opening of the Internet-art exhibition in the Whitney Biennial as an excuse for an informal gathering, I organized a brown-bag lunch for a few folks involved in the digital arts. People seemed to enjoy it, so I thought I'd try another. Please join me and a bunch of digital artists, electronic musicians, curators and the like for lunch anytime between 12:30 p.m. and 3 p.m. Friday, July 14, at the offices of The Thing, 601 West 26th Street, between 11th and 12th avenues. For those of you who have visited our host, Wolfgang Staehle, in the past, be advised that The Thing is now on the *fourth* floor. Befitting the gathering's casual intent, it's once again a brown-bag affair, and you should feel free to bring a spouse or significant other. There's no speakers, no panel discussions, no Internet-art exhibits, no PowerPoint presentations and no agenda -- overt or otherwise. I dubbed the first event "Mass Consumption," but even though July 14 is Bastille Day, I've decided not to call this one "MIDI@Midi." Sadly, a focus group rejected another option, "Neen@Noon," as silly-sounding. Instead, I thought I'd choose a name that paid tacit tribute to the digital artist Nik Williams, who passed away last November. I didn't know Nik well, but he enjoyed connecting diverse people and I believe he would have appreciated the spirit of this event. Accordingly, I'm also inviting a few of his friends to join us. If you have a moment, drop me a line and let me know if you can attend or not, and if there's anyone you think I ought to be sure to include. Once we get a little closer to the date, I'll send out a list of those who intend to join us. I look forward to seeing you in July. Best, Matt Mirapaul
