This is to you, Nik, more than to anyone else. When we first met,
I thought, who is this wonderful man, why haven't I met him before? I
also felt as if we had always been friends and would be friends for
ages. Over the next few years, we emailed, saw each other at
conferences, and on your drives out to see me in Columbus when you were
in Youngstown. At home in the world and yet apart from it, your
sardonic attitude could not hide your abundance of sweetness and
compassion. I wish only you had been able to give that to yourself
when you most needed it. I will miss you terribly, miss your kind
words spoken at just the right moment, your funny and wise comments on
the state of the art world and the world in general. I know few
people who have your purity of spirit and the passion to see it through as
long as you thought possible. I know you are listening.
