yeah I know, it's inexcusable that I didn't manage to write for 6 years but it seems it took me exactly that long... not that I didn't think about you all the time... Part of me has been childishly pissed for all these years, we were supposed to see a movie on Nov. 12, 99 -- well, you canceled, but for no expressed reasons, turned out you had more profound plans (now that's what I call an inexcusable, major fuck-up!)... I guess I can't call it "being stood up" but if I could, it would be the worst imaginable way of being stood up... So much has happened since you're gone... can't help imagining your cynical rants on the state of the world today, which, needless to say, wouldn't improve or change anything but make the world a hell of a lot funnier... I guess you don't know that -- thanks and *only* thanks to your recommendation -- I got the job as adjunct curator of new media arts at the Whitney in 99, a month after you made your exit from this world. When I compare where I was back then and where I am today, there's no doubt you opened a world of opportunity for me... can't even imagine where I'd be today without your intervention... kinda hard to live with that legacy though... but anyway, a big thanks for your unshakable belief in my abilities (which I, of course, still don't share ;) And I still wish you wouldn't have called me 'kiddo' all the time... Love
